Hello, Garrett makes some excellent entry-level scanners, and ACE 150 is one of them, but for a bet upgrade a little more moneyer to the Ace 250. It has a few choices your child will have to use after using the machine for a while. It is a reliable detector average depth, and many people I know started with an AS 250, have been maintained as a backup and continue to use them in certain situations. If purchasing averages about 250 new Ace 212.00 vs. 153.00 for the Ace 150. When available, I saw eBay go for less. Some others worth considering are the whites and Prizm models Tesoro Silver Umax found in this price range. The Treasury is a great machine, but not reading.
