How can I find a meteorite fall?

I saw a meteorite fall in a wooded area a few months ago. No, it was a shooting star I actually saw the meteor in turn from red to black and let cool before it dropped below the trees. I have been scouring the woods for days trying to locate the rock space, but without success. I have a very good idea of where it landed to watch two trees that appear to have been affected by the meteor, but that's all I have. Is there an easy way to find the space rock to not know? It was a few months so it is not a crater, but I think the site was reduced to less than 100 square feet actual location. Metal detector, perhaps?

If you really fell on the landing less than 100 square meters, a very thorough search of the area could increase. Review all the rocks in this area. A meteorite would probably crust may be dark and heavy for its size (more dense than ordinary rocks from the Earth). Pits or grooves similar to fingerprints are also good indicator. Metal detectors will be effective only 25% or so that are nickel-iron.
